Southern Exposure’s Youth Advisory Board  seeks PART-TIME ARTIST CURATOR and PART TIME ASSISTANT ARTIST CURATOR (2 OPENINGS)

Southern Exposure’s nationally recognized Artists in Education (AIE) program brings together diverse youth, artists, schools and organizations in a dynamic series of innovative programs.

Seeking two Artist Curators: 1 PART-TIME ARTIST CURATOR, 1 PART TIME ASSISTANT ARTIST CURATOR for its Youth Advisory Board (YAB) program. YAB gives young people the opportunity to exercise leadership skills and participate in their community by exploring relevant social and personal issues through visual arts. YAB is organized by Southern Exposure’s Artists in Education Program in collaboration with local community-based youth organizations. The program bridges neighborhoods and cultures by pairing local artists with teens. 

Qualifications 
• Experience with teaching, curation, installation, and community based art projects. 
• A background in art history a plus 
• Experience in art curriculum design and with exhibition design and installation. 
• Good communication skills.   Experience working collaboratively. 
• Experience with urban youth and teenage youth a plus. 
• Spanish language proficiency 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:  Collaborate with AIE program manager to teach, design workshops and curriculum for high school students. Teach relevant skills to YAB students and serve as a mentor and supervisor. Gather materials and resources for projects.  Bring in guest speakers and coordinate field trip. Help prepare for final show of artworks. Maintain classroom environment, including set up and clean up. 

Curriculum:  Artists are required to write a curriculum including goals of the lessons, skills learned, actual activities, materials needed, themes covered, field trips, etc. This is for the artist and his/her organizational staff person to remain focused, organized and clear of what is expected each week. Artists should begin the program with a focus to produce a final show and develop workshops that build toward that goal. 

Schedule/Location:  Artists are responsible for teaching twice per week for the entire semester. Classes generally run for 2 hours in length and take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Workshops take place at Southern Exposure. 

Time Commitment:  Workshops run for twelve weeks (Wednesday September 15, 2010- Wednesday December 8, 2010) The final exhibition opens the evening of December 10th. The show will be on view December 10-18. Students and artists meet twice weekly for two hours. Additionally, artists work 3 weeks prior to and 2 weeks following workshops to plan, collaborate on curriculum, prepare for the final show and de-install the final show. 

Start Date: August 24, 2010 
End Date: December 22, 2010 

Stipend 
Artists are paid for approximately 4 hours of class time per week, plus time spent during prep time, pre-workshop and weekly planning meetings, evaluations, a final project stipend, and installation and de-installation of the student exhibition. The Lead Instructor is paid $30 per hour and the Assistant Instructor is paid $15 an hour.

StageWrite: Building Literacy through Theatre Seeks Master Teaching Artists

StageWrite is a small, rapidly growing theatre-in-education organization that serves students and teachers in schools throughout the Bay Area, promoting literacy through theatre. We have been in operation for 7 years and are currently expanding our residency programs to serve more students, teachers, and school sites this next academic year. We seek highly qualified teaching artists to join our organization.

Job Description:   StageWrite is seeking Master Teaching Artists to teach 6 to 12 week residencies in elementary schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Teaching artists will train in StageWrite methodology for three distinct programs that build sequentially throughout the elementary grades, and teach drama residencies at multiple school sites.

Qualifications:
·      Minimum 5 years teaching artist experience with elementary students
·      A demonstrated commitment to youth development
·      Flexibility and willingness to learn StageWrite’s methodology
·     Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
·      Experience working with English Language Learners, youth at-risk for academic failure, and special education populations
·      B.A. (or equivalent experience) in the performing arts or creative writing

Compensation:  Master teaching artists will receive competitive rate of pay between $30-$50 per hour of classroom instruction depending on experience. Work would begin in September and go through May of next school year.

StageWrite: Building Literacy through Theatre Seeks Intern for 2010/11

StageWrite: Building Literacy Through Theatre, is a small, rapidly growing theatre-in-education organization that serves students and teachers in schools throughout the Bay Area promoting literacy through theatre. We have been in operation for 7 years and are currently expanding our residency programs to serve more students, teachers, and school sites this next academic year. We seek a highly motivated, passionate individual to join and learn from our organization. 

Job Description:  StageWrite is seeking an theatre-in-education Intern for 2010/2011 school year, 3 to 8 hours per week.  Responsibilities may include assisting with grant-writing and editing; creating publicity materials; brainstorming curricula; assisting at teaching artist training sessions and professional development workshops; using photo and video to document classes, performances, and professional development workshops.  The Intern will work closely with the Executive Director of StageWrite and, whenever possible, duties will be chosen according to the Intern’s interests and goals.

Qualifications:
      Interest in drama and its uses as an educational tool
·     Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
·      Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
·     Has attained or is working towards B.A. in performing arts, education, communication, creative writing, or a related field
·      Flexibility and willingness to learn StageWrite’s methodology

Compensation:  This is an unpaid internship. StageWrite will give school credit for work upon request.

The Institute on Aging Center for Elders and Youth in the Arts is seeking to increase its pool of professional artists and writers.

We hire practicing professionals working in their media who can also be trained to work with elderly and youth as contractors on community projects. We are currently seeking visual artists in the fine arts field, chorale instructors for singing groups, and poets with background in traditional Chinese poetry or a mix of east and west.  Zeum seeks arts education intern

If you are currently in a bachelor’s program in education, childhood development, art or media studies, this is a great opportunity!   Education Interns facilitate an interactive learning experience for visitors of all ages, backgrounds and learning styles in Zeum’s hands-on participatory environment. Education Interns work with the general admission visitors to guide and enhance Zeum’s exhibits. In addition to working directly with visitors, Education Interns experience the programmatic side of museum education by assisting the Education Coordinator with research, coordination, and other administrative duties.

Zeum is a non-profit multimedia arts and technology museum with a mission to foster creativity and innovation in young people of all backgrounds, communities and learning styles. By providing hands-on experiences in four core creative processes (animation, sound and video production, live performance and visual arts), we encourage youth to share their stories, build their voices, and use multimedia tools for creative self-expression.

Duties: Assist in the implementation of Zeum’s exhibits and programs: ensure that all programs are effectively and efficiently delivered to youth and their families for a positive visitor experience, and assist the program facilitators responsible for teaching basic, intermediate and advanced art and technology skills to youth and families. • Prepare, maintain and troubleshoot equipment and supplies in the exhibit/production areas; identify and report status of exhibits and supplies. • Set up and clean up workshop rooms according to Zeum procedures. • Assist in research and development of educational programming, administrative, marketing and coordinating duties. • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:  Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program. • Experience working with kids ages 4-12 strongly desired. • Classroom experience with K-12 students preferred. • Must love working, playing and creating with children, youth and families. • Strong computer skills on both Macs and PCs, working knowledge of media arts applications (such as Photoshop, iMovie, and Garage Band), and the ability to learn new software and communicate its uses to students and educators. • Conversational knowledge of Spanish or Asian languages desirable. • Finalist(s) for the position must undergo a thorough background check, including fingerprinting for criminal history.
